Bio
The mission of our research program is to provide regional and statewide entomological expertise on the ever-changing landscape of agricultural insect pest management in the Hudson Valley of New York State.
The Jentsch Lab conducts research and extension on insect pest problems facing commercial agriculture in pome fruit, hazelnut, small fruit, grape, and vegetable crops.
Yearly efficacy screening studies are made on the use of experimental and registered conventional and reduced-risk tools, conducted on a 20-acre orchard using small four-tree plots of standard commercial varieties in complete replicated block designs. Novel approaches are assessed for efficacy as economically sound strategies to develop alternative insect pest management in commercial crops.
These studies include the use of host-tree injection of insecticides, pheromone attractants, portable LED solar lighting, and non-spray insect-arresting technologies, biological-based insecticides, and biological control agents for management of native and recent invasive insects and mite species.
