Bio
Elizabeth "Betsy" Beers has been at Washington State University's Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center in Wenatchee, WA, since 1985, with research and extension responsibilities in tree fruits. Her program has focused on:
- Brown marmorated stink bug management
- Spotted wing drosophila monitoring and resistance management in sweet cherry
- Sterile insect release of codling moth
- Pear IPM
- Integrated management of secondary pests of apple
- Biological control of mites
- Insecticide resistance
- Non-target effects of pesticides on natural enemies
- Vectors of little cherry virus
Beers's outreach program has included editing and updating two key industry resources, Orchard Pest Management Online and the Tree Fruit Crop Protection Guide, which cover basic identification, biology, monitoring, management, and chemical control. A recent program emphasis is the promotion of use of biological control to manage insecticide resistance.
